Re-making Cards Found Online and In Magazines

Image
I love to take examples of cards and switch them up to make my own.  This card came from the Close To My Heart Seasonal Expressions 1 2015 book.  You can find the original card on page 27.  I just found different paper, added an extra white border and took away the sequins.  Viola!  A fun card to share.  One of the best things about this card is that you can use up scraps or use both sides of the same sheet of paper.  There are so many possibilities from this one simple sketch. Getting ideas from others is a great way to increase your own creativity.  I find that when I play with someone else's sketch or idea, I come up with my own ideas to add to it.  Of course, we have to be careful not to take credit for someone's work. So I thought about how I could take this basic sketch, use the new Zoe paper, and make something new.  By simply adding some shimmer trim, turning the above card on its side and trading out the stars for sequi...

Happy Birthday Card with Distress Ink and Perfect Pearls

Image
I recently went on a camping trip and decided to take my Distress Inks and watercolors along.  I found this amazing technique while watching Jennifer McGuire ( here ) and knew that I wanted to try it.  I still haven't done the full technique, but I really like the way this card turned out with the "partial" technique.  Before we get into the card though, here's some news you might want to know>>> August Special There are a few Close To My Heart Specials this month.  To see all of the specials click here .  However, I am also running a personal special.  Anyone who purchases $100 between now and August 3, 2015 from my Close To My Heart site, will receive one of the brand new paper packs absolutely free.  Here's how it will work: Click HERE to enter the site. Sparkly Birthday Card

Sometimes you just need a little sparkle and a birthday can be one of those times.  That's why I chose to use a little to glitz up this card for a special young man who will be turning 89 this week. Of course, Close To My Heart helped me a bit.  I used the following supplies.  You can click on the names of most of them to get your own. Artfully Sent Birthday Card and Flash Special

Image
I had a few minutes to pull out the brand new Artfully Sent cartridge from Close to my Heart the other day and I made this quick card for a friend's birthday.  I must say that it was fairly simple to make and it turned out to be so pretty.  I used the paper from the Ariana collection which has retired, but other paper would be beautiful as well.  No I must tell you that the printed panel on the left side of the card is not a Cricut cut.  I actually hand cut that to fit the spot.  I think that the next time that I use this, I will cut the card in patterned paper and the accent in the solid just to see how the words pop.  It's definitely going to be fun to experiment with this cartridge. Don't forget that anyone who purchases this cartridge (or any other purchase) on the "Artfully Sent" gathering found on my site here , between now and October 11th will be eligible to enter a drawing to receive all the hostess rewards earned on that gathering.  Woo...

Confetti Wishes Card

Image
Top-o-the- morning to you.  I trust you are having a great day.  I wanted to share this card that I designed using the Confetti Wishes paper pack from Close to my Heart.  This is one of the bonus cards available in my workshop clubs.  This was so fun to make and I think it may have been everyone's favorite. I used 2 different techniques on the background paper - tone-on-tone and heat embossing.  Though I don't have Close to my Heart embossing tools or powders or gold shimmer tape, you can find them at my Close to my Heart store here .  I also used the following: Confetti Wishes paper Lagoon cardstock and Ink pad White Daisy cardstock Art Philosophy Cricut cartridge Lovely Birthday stamp set Have you thought about joining a club?  I think you will be glad you did. Thanks so much for stopping by today.  Remember to take some time to enjoy the little things.

Altered Scrapbook Sketch Card

Image
Today I have something to share with you that I've never tried before.  I took a scrapbook sketch and turned into a standard A2 card sketch.  I love the way it turned out and hope you will too. I started by choosing a sketch that was originally posted on Srapbook Challenges.  If you click on the sketch, you will be taken to the original sketch.  They have lots of fun sketches for all you scrapbookers. I then created my own sketch to make it fit on a standard 4.25" X 5.5" card.  Each of the banner ribbons were cut  at 3/8" wide. Now it was time to create the card.  I needed the following supplies to pull it off: DCWV - The Tradewinds Matstack Core'dinations "Timeless" Textured Cardstock (grey) Georgia Pacific white cardstock Stampendous "Happy Messages" stamps Close To My Heart - Outdoor Denim ink Fiskars "Upper Crest" border punch EK Success 1 3/8" circle punch Martha Stewart Butterfly punc...

More Sketch Inspired Cards

Image
I finally made it to my crafty space for a little while the other night.  I didn't have a lot of time, but I wanted to get a few cards done.  Once again, I pulled out the OWH sketches and chose B-21.  You can find these fabulous sketches by clicking here . I know I've said it in the past, but I want to say again, how easy it is to make cards using sketches.  If you look at the original sketch, you will see that I changed things up a bit on some of the cards to make the sketch work for me.  I think that I made all 4 cards in about an hour and that is with filming the video.  You could really push out a lot of cards if you chose coordinating 12X12 papers went to work. I used paper and embellishments from Basic Grey's "Life of the Party" for the two cards shown above.  Basic Grey's "Shine On" paper with "Shine On and Serendipity" embellishments were used on the two below. The sentiments were stamped using Hero Arts "All Occ...
