"Heartfelt" Watercolor Tag

I really hope that you are not all getting tired of watercolor projects because I am having so much fun making them.  You should see some variety soon.  As I was waiting on another project to dry a bit, I decided that I wanted to use watercolor techniques to create this little tag for my husband.  It was made from a piece of left over Strathmore Watercolor Paper (90#) and Distress Inks.  Of course 3 Girl JAM ribbon finished it off beautifully.  It took just a few minutes to make and was the perfect compliment for a little "I love you" gift.

Items used:
3 Girl JAM Aqua Splash and Dress White crinkle ribbons
Strathmore Watercolor paper (90#)
Peacock Feathers and Salty Ocean Distress Inks
Tim Holtz Heartfelt stamp set
Sequins from Mainstays (Walmart brand)
Tim Holtz tiny attatcher
Memento Tuxedo Black ink

Don't forget that there is still time to enter the "Anything Goes with Ribbon" challenge at 3 Girl JAM.  You could win some delicious 3GJ Crinkle Ribbon for yourself.  Click on the ribbon names above to be taken directly to them in the 3 Girl JAM store.  These are perfect colors for summer crafting.  Be sure to use the code "CP10" on your order to receive a discount on anything you buy.

Close to my Heart Thursday - "Wishing You..." Card

Today I am introducing a new feature to DJ's Sundries and I'm so happy that you chose to stop by.  I really am going to try to feature Close to my Heart projects on Thursdays.  I hope you will enjoy it and be be inspired to try some new things.  I will plan to link you directly to the products that I use so that you can go get them too.  Simply click on the link and you will be taken to the product.  Then all you need to do is create an account or log in and shop.  You are welcome to join any Gathering and help someone earn rewards.  You can even host your own Gathering.  Now let's get started on today's project.

I needed to make a quick card for a friend so I pulled out the Reflections idea book.  It is loaded with wonderful sketches as well as examples of every card.  It also contains full directions for making the cards.  I then started cutting my papers from the "Free to be Me" paper pack.  Now I can't link this pack because it is one of this month's specials.  If you spend $50 before tax and shipping, you can get this paper pack for just $5!  Once you are placing your order, you will receive the option for purchasing it once you reach the $50 mark.  It's really a great deal.

After choosing the papers, I cut and distressed them.  I then inked them using the Chocolate Exclusive Ink and the CTMH round sponge.  Eyelets from the Crop-a-dile pack were set and London Blue ribbon from 3 Girl JAM and sequins from Walmart finished off the outside.  I used the "Give a Lift" stamp as well as a retired set called "Everlasting Life Holidays" from Close to my Heart.

Thanks so much for stopping by today.  Remember to take some time to enjoy the little things.

Watercolor Mini Cards of Encouragement #2

On Sunday, I shared a pretty set of mini cards that I created for a swap at Art & Sassy.  Today, I am going to share the second set.  I used the same color combinations and sentiments as in the previous set, but I used a very different technique and flower.  I decided to use masking and leave the flower white and paint the background with the watercolors.  Unfortunately, my mask wasn't quite dry enough or thick enough so the flowers ended up with a few water splashes.  I decided I liked the effect and decided to use them anyway.  I also decided that I wanted a little punch of color in the flower centers.

As in the last set, I used Hero Arts' "All Occasion Messages" and Scrappy Cat's "Sunny Days" stamp sets.

The Distress Ink pad and marker color combinations I used were:
Peacock Feathers & Salty Ocean
Picked Raspberry & Dusty Concord
Dusty Concord & Stormy Sky
Barn Door & Fired Brick
Mustard Seed & Spiced Marmalade

Other supplies:
Colored and white cardstock scraps from my scrappy stash
Memento Tuxedo Black ink
Homemade glitter spray

I'm really not sure which set I liked better.  I must admit that I really like them both.  If you are interested in the video I made,  it is posted below.

Thanks for stopping by today.  Remember to take some time to enjoy the little things.

Watercolor Mini Cards of Encouragement #1

One of the current swaps at Art & Sassy is mini cards.  The rules are that the cards must be about 2 1/2" square, have 4 different sentiments and that you need to make 2 sets.  I thought this sounded like a lot of fun, so I decided to join. It's not too late if you would like to join the fun.  Just click here.

My inspiration came from a watercolor class called "Watercolors for Cardmakers" that I recently took from  I highly recommend the classes from here.  This is the second one that I have taken and I have learned so much.

"Sunny Days" from Scrappy Cats
"All Occasion Messages" from Hero Arts

Distress Ink Pads and Marker Color Combinations
Peacock Feathers & Salty Ocean
Picked Raspberry & Dusty Concord
Dusty Concord & Stormy Sky
Barn Door & Fired Brick
Mustard Seed & Spiced Marmalade

Other Items:
Strathmore Cold Press Watercolor Paper (90#)
Antique Linen Distress Ink
Memento Tuxedo Black Ink
Mixed colored and white cardstocks from my scrap stash
Mainstays Sequins

Close to my Heart - Workshops To Go and Gathering Information

Good morning everyone.  I am so excited to be starting this new Close to my Heart venture.  I would love to be YOUR Independent Close to my Heart Consultant.  I know that sounds crazy because you likely don't live near me.  However, I have developed a couple of plans to make it work so that you can not only host a Gathering and purchase products, but to also bring some of the experience of a Home Gathering to you and your friends.

How can I do that?  At this time I am offering a special to anyone who purchases a minimum of $25 from an Online Gathering.  I will send them a link to a video made exclusively for my Online Gatherings as well as the items to make the project AT NO EXTRA COST.  Can you believe it?  These would be the same types of projects that those attending my Home Gatherings receive.  They will be mailed out soon after the minimum order is placed.  You may even receive it before you receive your order.  This offer is included on ANY order that totals $25 before tax and shipping that is purchased through an Online Gathering.  Every hostess who hosts an Online Gathering will receive the same kit and link as a special thank you.

But that's not all.  I would also like to start Workshops To Go clubs ONLINE.  Yes, you heard that right.  I have developed a detailed plan that would allow you to participate in a Workshop To Go club.  You would not only receive the Club value, but you would also receive hostess credit with very little extra work on your part.  These clubs will also include EXCLUSIVE videos and some other fun perks.  Just send me an email at to receive more information on how this will work.  You will be glad that you did!

Thanks for stopping by today.  Remember to take some time to enjoy the little things.

"I Love You Berry Much"

Good morning.  I really hope you had a great Mother's Day.  Mine was berry good - even though I worked.  I wanted to share a sneak peak of the gift I made for my grandmother.  I know it looks like a card, and it is a card, but it is the card that goes with the large set of cards that I made to send to her.  I think it will be the perfect gift for a person who has nearly everything she really wants.  Have you ever though of using cards as gifts?  Think about it, nearly everyone sends cards or notes to their friends and families.  Cards can be quite expensive, so a package of ready made cards can really be helpful to an elderly person on a fixed income.  Of course, any card can be more special when you add some 3 Girl JAM crinkle ribbon.  I grabbed the pink ribbon from the brand new Tie Dye 2 bundle to make mine special.

Does special have to mean complicated or time consuming?  Absolutely not!  Though you can spend lots of time making something beautiful, sometimes you can whip it together with just a few simple supplies, a little bit of time, and a whole lot of love.  I used the supplies from a card kit from SEI, some ATG, foam tape, and the gorgeous ribbon and put this together.

Have you entered the May challenge on the 3 Girl JAM challenge blog yet?  This month is "Anything Goes with Ribbon" and we really mean anything goes.  Head on over here to check out the rules and then head to the 3 Girl JAM store to stock up on ribbon and flair to make your own great projects.  Be sure to use the code "CP10" to get a great discount.

Thanks for stopping by today.  Remember to take some time to enjoy the little things.

Close to my Heart "Skylark" Mother's Day Card

I wanted to make a special Mother's Day card for my mom and I wanted to use the Skylark product line from Close to my Heart.  I don't have a Close to My Heart mother's stamp, but I was still able to create a great card using the Artiste Cricut cartridge bundle as well as some other great products.  I think she will love it because it is really her style.

Since the paper was double-sided, I didn't need to choose coordinating pattern papers.  I just pulled some Daisy White and Lagoon cardstock to pull it all together.  I even used the strip from the top of the page for some extra dimension.  Lagoon and Desert Sand Exclusive inks were the perfect colors to coordinate with the paper.  Not sure where to get started but want to start making cards?  The CTMH Originals Cardmaking Program book is a great place to start.  This card is actually from that book along with a slight modification.  It is so easy to use.

The video walks you through the card.  I hope you will find it helpful.  It's longer than recent videos but it is full of information and at least one tip.

You can click on the names of the products above to be taken directly to my CTMH store.

No Means No

**Warning - This post contains a candid look into a very sensitive topic.  It may not be appropriate for young audiences due to it's sexual theme.  However, it is something that I feel should be discussed.**

It's been quite a while since I wrote a reflections post, but feel prompted to do so today.  As many of you know, I am an Emergency Department nurse.  What you may not know is that I'm also a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner or SANE.  I am privileged to work on a talented team of nurse's trained to assist sexual assault and rape victims.  I also work with a multi-disciplinary team made of law enforcement agents, advocates, nurses, and prosecutors.  One of my team members recently received an award for her work in the field and as I was reflecting on the work she and the rest of the team does, I was prompted to write about this difficult and painful topic.

A Little Background
My start into SANE was quite unexpected and goes back to 2008 when I was in my first year of nursing school and a CNA in a small hospital.  I was asked one morning to float to the ED and assist the ED manager with a SANE exam.  I knew nothing about SANE and very little about sexual assault, but I went.  That day a seed was planted in my heart to help these victims.  The SANE is often one of the earliest points of contact the victim has made since being assaulted.  The way the SANE acts or reacts to what she is exposed to can greatly impact the victim's emotional healing.  Though I have little or no contact with most of my victims after that one encounter, I truly believe that if I show kindness and compassion, I may very well help her (or him) begin their journey to healing.  That is a responsibility that I take very seriously.  I may not be able to talk about Jesus, but I can be a reflection of His love to a hurting heart.

What is Sexual Assault?
So how do I define sexual assault?  Sexual assault is any unwanted sexual contact.  Each state has its own laws on what is a felony or what is a misdemeanor.  To define the differences would be far too complicated to go into here.  ANYONE can be sexually assaulted.  The hot 20 year old college co-ed is not the only person at risk.  Sexual assault is a crime that impacts every age, race, gender, and religion.  At the most basic level - NO MEANS NO.  We should have learned that concept as toddlers.  Unfortunately, when it comes to what is OK in dating or other relationships, the rules often get thrown out.

No Means No
What are some common reasons people don't or can't say no when they really don't want sexual contact?
1. Fear of injury or harm to themselves or to someone they love.  No explanation needed here.
2. Fear of peer pressure - "If I say no, I will never be asked out again."
3. Feeling like they let things go too far and now they can't say no.  Though this is a lie, it is a tactic used and causes increased feelings of guilt to the already hurting victim.
4. Fear of other reprisal - "If I tell my boss no, I will lose my job." or "If I say no to my teacher, I may fail the class or get picked on at school."
These are some of the reasons, but the list could probably continue.

Sexual Assault is not always reported.
Despite the fact that sexual assault is more prominent than you may realize, it is often unreported.  There are many reasons this occurs.  It is important that we understand some of those reasons.
1. "No one will believe me".  Sadly, this is sometimes true.  Keep telling someone until you find that one who will listen to you.
2. Fear - The reasons people are afraid to say no are often the same reasons they are afraid to report.  Fear is a powerful emotion and abusers use it to control their victims.
3. Shame - Most victims feel a measure of guilt about being assaulted.  While this may not make sense to someone who has never been assaulted, it is a common feeling among victims.
 4. Reporting a rape or sexual assault can feel a bit like opening Pandora's Box.  A very private, painful hurt is now being ripped open and shared with friends, family, and complete strangers.

So what do we do about it?
We educate - Teach your children about inappropriate touch.  Teach them that No Means No - no matter what else is going on.  Teach those around you that it is OK to say no.  Dinner and a movie doesn't mean you have to say 'yes' to sex.
We report - Do you know someone who is being abused?  Will you be the one to help them report it?  Sexual assault and rape are crimes!
We love and support - If someone comes to you after an assault, listen to them.  They are hurting and they need someone to believe what they are saying.  They don't need your rejection, disbelief, or criticism.  They may not even initially need your advice.  They need a rock to steady them through a horrific storm, a shoulder to cry on, and a hand to hold.

Are you a victim of sexual assault?
It is for you that my heart hurts.  I can only understand a very small amount of the pain you are feeling because I have listened to your story through the lives of my patients.  I have seen your bruises, held your hand, let you cry, and tried to love you with Jesus' love.  There is HOPE and HEALING for you.  Most cities have a crisis hotline or you can quickly find national hotlines online.  Stop a police officer you see in the convenience store.  Tell someone you trust.  Talk to your pastor.  If the assault is recent, go to the Emergency Department.  They can help you get the resources you need.  Just reach out to someone.  If they don't listen, reach out to someone else.  DON'T GIVE UP.  You can heal.  No, the road isn't easy.  It's very hard, but you can do it.

3 Girl JAM Challenges
Today is a very exciting day at 3 Girl JAM.  Not only is it the beginning of the new Challenge - Anything Goes With Ribbon.  It is also release day for some great new products.  I'm looking forward to seeing them in person very soon.  Want to see what they are?

Aren't these new things so fun?  They are great for Spring and Summer Crafting.  The "Keep Calm" flair is so trendy and will make a smashing addition to your projects.  You can click on each picture to be taken directly to the 3 Girl JAM store.  Don't forget to use the code "CP10" at checkout to receive a discount on your order.

Now on to my project for the challenge.  I made a "Joy Fold" card.  I had never made these before but it was a project as part of a swap.  I found the pattern here.  You should really try this card!  I made six of them for the swap and they were quick and easy.  Of course 3 Girl JAM had the perfect color for me when I pulled out the Merlot from the Wine and Jewels bundle.

This simple card didn't take many other products.  I used:
K & Company's paper pad for all the patterned paper.
Distress Ink - Vintage Photo
"The Future" stamp set from Sweet and Sassy

Would you like to win a great prize?  Head over to the challenge blog by clicking the link at the top of the page to find out the rules for entering your project.  Then link up your project for a chance to win.
