Memory Keeping...Simple Journaling

Image
I have a HoRRibLE memory.  Sometimes I wonder if someday I'll forget my own name.  Though it is true that a picture is worth a thousand words, you really don't want to forget the story behind those pictures. This is especially important if you don't have time to scrapbook those memories right away. In the last memory keeping post, we discussed getting our photos organized.  That is an important first step, but now lets talk about the next step... Simple Journaling Does this remind you of long diaries that you never kept up?  Believe me, I completely understand.  I can't tell you how many times over the years that I have started a journal.  Typically I would do great for a few days and then forget to write for days, weeks and months.  I'd pick it up later and have so much to say that I would spend a long time trying to remember all the fun things that had happened since I last journaled.  Now for those of you who are great journalers, I applaud you.  I wis

Memory Keeping...Getting Organized

Image
Scrapbooking and memory keeping can be overwhelming, especially when you are years behind!  So how do I get organized and ready to go? Step #1 Get those old photos out of the sticky pages! These pages are not archival safe and will ruin your photos over time.  Even if you don't have time to scrapbook them, get them out of those pages.  The same is true if you have pictures pasted onto construction paper pages.  Admit it... somewhere you have some hidden away because you were scrapping when scrapping wasn't cool.   Step #2 Storing your old photos Don't just toss them aside though.  Keep them organized in photo-safe boxes.  Chances are, you have dates and everything right there with the photos.  If you need to, grab a small notebook and copy those times and dates into the notebook just so you won't forget it all when its time to start scrapbooking.  Photoboxes are inexpensive at most stores like Michaels or JoAnns.  Some of these even come with dividers to plac

In celebration of National Scrapbooking Month, I want to stop for a second and talk about memory keeping. We all love to look at the elaborate scrapbooking pages we see all over the internet.  Sometimes, we might even enjoy making our own.  Though it may come as a surprise to you, there are some of us who don't enjoy spending time crafting.  Other times, we are realistic enough to know that if we wait to write things down until we have time to make
