New Release Blog Hop - Altered Canvas

Welcome to the new release blog hop at 3 Girl JAM.  I am so happy to be sharing these new colors today.  If you hopped over from Carri, you are in the right spot.  If you just happened on to my blog today, be sure to head over to see Julie's post here.

Now on to my project for today.  I decided that I wanted to alter a canvas.  Though this is not the first canvas that I have altered, it is unlike anything that I have attempted.  I must say that it was quite enjoyable to make and wasn't difficult at all.  My favorite color of all of the new colors is without a doubt Purple Passion.  I decided that I would keep this project for myself.

Besides Purple Passion, I also used a lot of other supplies:
Canvas board
Faber Castell Gelatos
Prima - Mixed Media Doll by Julie Nutting
Tim Holtz - Black Soot Distress Ink, Old Paper and Dusty Concord Distress Markers, Heartfelt stamp set, Milled Lavender Distress Stickles
Studio G - glitter glue
Zig Pure Brown marker
Ranger Jet Black Archival ink
Momento London Fog ink
White gel pen
Micron black pen
K. Andrew Designs - Scripture Sayings stamp set
Want2Scrap bling
Recollections leaves
Petaloo - feathers
Spare Parts flowers (from Hobby Lobby)

How about a video?

Just in case you get lost on the way through the hop, here is the line up.  Just click on each name to see the projects.

Thankful Beyond Measure

I trust you are having a great Thursday.  I'm so happy to be with you today.  Do you ever have those times when you just want to let someone know that you are thankful for them?  I know I do.  Recently a co-worker asked me if I had an extra thank you card for just such a person and I knew that I needed to make one that was extra special.  Needing room for multiple people to sign and leave a message, I decided that I would make a 5X7 card.  I grabbed some paper, some embellishments, and a few other items and went to work.  Of course any special card is made more special with 3 Girl JAM ribbon so I also grabbed some Witch's Brew and Antique White.

Now I must tell you that there is a NEW COLOR of 3 Girl JAM ribbon that will be coming soon that would have been even more perfect for this card.  I admit that I seriously considered sneaking it in here, but I behaved.  Curious?  You will all have to wait just a few more days.  Let me tell you, it will be worth the wait.

Of course a card is not made from ribbon alone so I should probably let you know some of the other things I used:
Paper Trey Ink - Vintage Cream cardstock, "Counting my blessings" die and stamp set
Basic Grey - PB&J 6X6 paper pad and "Marjolaine" woolies
Close to My Heart - Outdoor Denim ink
Want 2 Scrap - bling
Adhesives - foam and tape runners

Thanks so much for stopping by today.  Remember to take some time to enjoy the little things.

I am linking this up to the following challenges:
Simon Says Stamps - Anything Goes
CardzTV - Cute as a Button
Scrappy Mom's Stamps - Use a Flower

Reflections on Heaven

Heaven has been on my mind a lot lately.  As I sit here typing, I am surrounded by the sounds of my mother-in-law's gentle snoring and this song playing on Abiding Radio:

"Just think of stepping on shore and finding it heaven,
Of touching a hand and finding it God's.
Of breathing new air and finding it celestial
Of waking up in Glory and finding it Home."

Why has it been on my mind so much?  Because very soon my dear one will be doing just as the words in this song say.  It's been more than 2 months since she had the stroke that we thought would take her Home.  When that didn't happen, we worked to help her regain as much function as possible.  The skilled nursing facility wasn't for her and she was taken home after little more than a week.  Despite trying, she just hasn't been able to get stronger.  Her body is growing weaker and communication is getting more difficult.  Her once strong heart now beats so rapidly that it will not be able to hold out much longer.  I've cried.  A little piece of my heart has broken wide open.  I understand that I will soon lose a dear friend.

And yet there is hope!

No, not as many would think of hope.  I know she will not live much longer.  I would not wish that for her.  You see, she will be where her treasure is - Heaven.  There is so much more waiting for her than what we have to offer here on earth.  She will see her Lord face to face and she will not be alone as she has for the last year.

There is so much about Heaven that we can't know or understand.  Yet, there are a few things that God had chosen to let us know:

God will be there
There will be no sickness or pain
There is no night
There is joy in Heaven when a believer is called home
There is no sin - all is perfect
There is no end to Heaven - It is forever (which is something my finite mind can't grasp)

In the last couple of years, so many heroes have joined my Lord in Heaven that I can't help but speculate a little bit about things.  For instance, can you imagine how much sweeter the choir is sounding now that Dad Parish, Dr. Shuler, and George Beverly Shea have joined in?  How about the new piano player that joined in recently when Mrs. Shuler went Home?

However, I can't ever forget that little part that there will be no sin in Heaven.  I recently heard the testimony of someone who truly understood what sin was when she looked at herself in the light of the Ten Commandments.  Ouch!  I know that I have sinned against every single one of those and if you're honest with yourself, you will realize that you have too.  Because God is just, that would leave me in a pretty sad place and deserving of eternal hell...

My God loved me so much that He sent his Son Jesus to pay the price in full for my sin.  WOW!  That kind of love is beyond our human reasoning.  Since Jesus paid the price, all I need to do is acknowledge I'm a sinner, accept Jesus' payment for my sin, and believe that He fully paid the price.  Yes, He paid the price because I'm not good enough to pay it myself.  What an awesome gift!  This fills me with the expectancy that though I will soon part from my dear one, I will see her again.  I will see her and we will worship at the feet of our Lord together.

How about you?  Do you have the same expectancy?  Are you confident that you will spend eternity with God or do you fear the uncertainty of death?  My prayer is that you will know God personally and that you are confident that you will be with Him forever.

Simple Sketch Inspired Cards

Today I wanted to show you 3 of the simplest cards I've made in a long time.  They were styled after another Operation Write Home sketch that you can find here.  These sketches are really helping me get caught up right now and I'm so thankful for them.  Remember that using a sketch doesn't take away your own creativity or flair.  A sketch is just a springboard to jump to your own ideas.

The first card I made was from the Basic Grey "Life of the Party" 6X6 pad and Element stickers.  The blue card base was something I found in my stash.  I think this will be a perfect male or kid birthday card, don't you?

I decided to take a border from the Element sticker sheet to finish off the inside.  Hero Art's "All Occasion Messages" had the perfect little happy birthday sentiment to finish it off with Archival "Jet Black" ink.

The second card is definitely for a lady.  I pulled out the "So Sophie" 6X6 pad, Basic Grey "Wander" bloomers, and Hero Art's "All Occasion Messages" stamped with a little Archival Jet Black ink.  The card base was made from Paper Trey Ink's (PTI) "Plum Pudding" cardstock.  This is my favorite card of the 3.  I love the simple design with the gorgeous purples.

The final card is one that I plan to send on to Operation Write Home.  They have said that they need general "Missing You" cards so that was what I made.  Notice anything different?  That's right, the "circle" in the corner is a rectangle.  I used "This and That - Graceful" from Echo Park for the patterned paper and "Vintage Cream" PTI cardstock for the base.  The stamp is from Stampendous' "Happy Messages" in Archival "Jet Black".  The rectangle sticker is from Echo Park's "So Happy Together" Element stickers.  The little beads were made using "Petal Pink" Liquid Pearls.

I am linking this to the Operation Write Home Sketch #167 Challenge.  I am also linking it to the Simon Says Stamp "April Shower's/ Spring Flower's" challenge found here.  Be sure to check out everyone's cards.

Interested in a video?  I have one for you today.

Birdie Birthday

How many nursery rhymes pop into your head when you think of rain?  Undoubtedly a few.  Today's 3 Girl JAM challenge is all about April Showers.  The Cricut "Imagine More" cartridge had the perfect image for the theme so I decided to use it to get started.

3 Girl JAM Red crinkle ribbon from the Red, White, and Blue pack was the perfect accent for this card.  Unfortunately, this color is not currently available, but there are other reds available and some new colors are coming soon.

Other supplies:
Echo Park  - Dots and Stripes 6X6 pad
Spellbinders - Labels #5
Archival Black ink
Glossy Accents
Red Stickles
Stampendous - "Happy Messages" stamp set
K. Andrew Designs - "Splashtastic Summer" stamp set
3 Girl JAM Bowmaker (found here)

In the video, I not only walk you through the card, but I also show you how I made the pretty little bow with the 3 Girl JAM bowmaker.  It is so simple to use and fun too.

So come and play along with 3 Girl JAM "April Showers with Ribbon" challenge.  Thanks for stopping by and remember to take some time to enjoy the little things today.

I also am linking this card to the Simon Says Stamp "April Showers and/or Spring Flowers" challenge.  You can find it by clicking here.

Birthday Balloons and More

Hello, I hope you are having a great day.  I am plugging away at birthday cards. I thought I would share 3 of them with you today.  Grab some Daffodil and Harvest Orange 3 Girl JAM ribbon and come and play along.

I must admit that this card was really easy to make and I had a lot of fun doing it.  Here's what I used along with the 3 Girl JAM ribbon:

Basic Grey - "Life of the Party" 6X6 paper pad and element stickers.
Blue cardstock cut at 5.5"X8.5"
Dusty Durango ink - Stampin' Up
Hero Arts - All Occasion Messages (inside sentiment)
Operation Write Home - Bonus Sketch #13 (Click here to get yours)

Now for the bonus cards...

If you look at the purple ones closely, you can see that the purple floral paper is slightly different on each of them.

Paper - Paper Trey Inc - Plum Pudding and Vintage Cream; My Mind's Eye - So Sophie 6X6 pad
Rich Razzleberry ink - Stampin' Up
Daffodil crinkle ribbon - 3 Girl JAM

Stampendous - Happy Messages (Happy Birthday sentiment)
Hero Arts - All Occasion Messages.  This is not pictured here, but on the third card I used this stamp set for the inside sentiment.  It said "Hello Friend".  Isn't it neat how a sketch can be tweaked just a little bit to make very different cards?

Operation Write Home's current throwdown challenge is to use your favorite color combination.  I love mixing purple and green.  Plus the "Hello Friend" card is going to OWH.  I plan to enter this challenge by clicking here.

I made a video that I hope you will enjoy.

Did you know that today is the last day to link up your "Pastel Colors with Ribbon" card at 3 Girl JAM?  Tomorrow we will start a new challenge.  I've seen some sneak peeks and there are some really cute projects coming.  Thanks so much for stopping by.  Remember to take some time to enjoy the little things today.

It's A Boy Baby Card

Good Morning!  I trust you are having a great day.  I have been quite busy, cleaning up the craft area trying to have a neater space to work in.  The card I have for you today was actually designed quite awhile ago in the Cricut Craft Room.  However, I was not able to get it to cut.  It would only print.  After multiple attempts, I decided to just print it and to hand cut it.  I'm going to need to call customer service to try to figure out what is going on.

Here's what I used:
"Nursery Tails" Cricut Imagine cartridge
Georgia Pacific white cardstock
Icicle Stickles
"Goblin Green" crinkle ribbon from 3 Girl JAM
Foam adhesive
3 Girl JAM bowmaker
Close To My Heart - Indian Corn Blue ink
Inkadinkadoo - "Welcome Baby" stamp set (for the inside of the card - please see the video)

How about a video to show you how I made this?

Did you know that the current 3 Girl JAM challenge is "Pastel Colors with Ribbon"?  I think this will make a great entry, so I plan to enter it there. You can see more about this if you check out the link on the right side of the page.

Simon Says Stamps is having a birthday celebration right now.  What says birthday more than a "birth day"?  Check out the challenge by clicking here.

Club SEI and Project Life

As mentioned in the second video of my last post (here), I recently attended an event and was able to pick up quite a few fun new items.  Rather than making one verrry long video to share my haul, I have decided to break it up a bit.  In this video, I show you my first kit from Club SEI.  The reasons that I decided to try this particular card club are discussed and I show you the goodies in the March kit.  I also show you the Project Life kit that I picked up on a great special on HSN.

Thanks so much for stopping by today.  Be on the lookout for some great projects using these things.  Remember to take some time to enjoy the little things today.
