"Heartfelt" Watercolor Tag

Image
I really hope that you are not all getting tired of watercolor projects because I am having so much fun making them.  You should see some variety soon.  As I was waiting on another project to dry a bit, I decided that I wanted to use watercolor techniques to create this little tag for my husband.  It was made from a piece of left over Strathmore Watercolor Paper (90#) and Distress Inks.  Of course 3 Girl JAM ribbon finished it off beautifully.  It took just a few minutes to make and was the perfect compliment for a little "I love you" gift. Items used: 3 Girl JAM Aqua Splash and Dress White crinkle ribbons Strathmore Watercolor paper (90#) Peacock Feathers and Salty Ocean Distress Inks Tim Holtz Heartfelt stamp set Sequins from Mainstays (Walmart brand) Tim Holtz tiny attatcher Memento Tuxedo Black ink Don't forget that there is still time to enter the "Anything Goes with Ribbon" challenge at 3 Girl JAM.  You could win some delicious 3GJ C...

Today I am introducing a new feature to DJ's Sundries and I'm so happy that you chose to stop by.  I really am going to try to feature Close to my Heart projects on Thursdays.  I hope you will enjoy it and be be inspired to try some new things.  I will plan to link you directly to the products that I use so that you can go get them too.  Simply click on the link and you will be taken to the product.  Then all you need to do is create an account or log in and shop.  You are welcome to join any Gathering and help someone earn rewards.  You can even host your own Gathering.  Now let's get started on today's project. I needed to make a quick card for a friend so I pulled out the Reflections idea book.  It is loaded with wonderful sketches as well as examples of every card.  It also contains full directions for making the cards.  I then started cutting my papers from the "Free to be Me" paper pack.  Now I can't link this pac...

Watercolor Mini Cards of Encouragement #2

Image
On Sunday, I shared a pretty set of mini cards that I created for a swap at Art & Sassy.  Today, I am going to share the second set.  I used the same color combinations and sentiments as in the previous set, but I used a very different technique and flower.  I decided to use masking and leave the flower white and paint the background with the watercolors.  Unfortunately, my mask wasn't quite dry enough or thick enough so the flowers ended up with a few water splashes.  I decided I liked the effect and decided to use them anyway.  I also decided that I wanted a little punch of color in the flower centers. As in the last set, I used Hero Arts' "All Occasion Messages" and Scrappy Cat's "Sunny Days" stamp sets. The Distress Ink pad and marker color combinations I used were: Peacock Feathers & Salty Ocean Picked Raspberry & Dusty Concord Dusty Concord & Stormy Sky Barn Door & Fired Brick Mustard Seed & Spiced Marmalad...

Watercolor Mini Cards of Encouragement #1

Image
One of the current swaps at Art & Sassy is mini cards.  The rules are that the cards must be about 2 1/2" square, have 4 different sentiments and that you need to make 2 sets.  I thought this sounded like a lot of fun, so I decided to join. It's not too late if you would like to join the fun.  Just click here . My inspiration came from a watercolor class called "Watercolors for Cardmakers" that I recently took from onlinecardclasses.com.  I highly recommend the classes from here.  This is the second one that I have taken and I have learned so much. Stamps "Sunny Days" from Scrappy Cats "All Occasion Messages" from Hero Arts Distress Ink Pads and Marker Color Combinations Peacock Feathers & Salty Ocean Picked Raspberry & Dusty Concord Dusty Concord & Stormy Sky Barn Door & Fired Brick Mustard Seed & Spiced Marmalade Other Items: Strathmore Cold Press Watercolor Paper (90#) Antique Linen Distre...

Close to my Heart - Workshops To Go and Gathering Information

Image
Good morning everyone.  I am so excited to be starting this new Close to my Heart venture.  I would love to be YOUR Independent Close to my Heart Consultant.  I know that sounds crazy because you likely don't live near me.  However, I have developed a couple of plans to make it work so that you can not only host a Gathering and purchase products, but to also bring some of the experience of a Home Gathering to you and your friends. How can I do that?  At this time I am offering a special to anyone who purchases a minimum of $25 from an Online Gathering.  I will send them a link to a video made exclusively for my Online Gatherings as well as the items to make the project AT NO EXTRA COST.  Can you believe it?  These would be the same types of projects that those attending my Home Gatherings receive.  They will be mailed out soon after the minimum order is placed.  You may even receive it before you receive your order.  This offer is...

"I Love You Berry Much"

Image
Good morning.  I really hope you had a great Mother's Day.  Mine was berry good - even though I worked.  I wanted to share a sneak peak of the gift I made for my grandmother.  I know it looks like a card, and it is a card, but it is the card that goes with the large set of cards that I made to send to her.  I think it will be the perfect gift for a person who has nearly everything she really wants.  Have you ever though of using cards as gifts?  Think about it, nearly everyone sends cards or notes to their friends and families.  Cards can be quite expensive, so a package of ready made cards can really be helpful to an elderly person on a fixed income.  Of course, any card can be more special when you add some 3 Girl JAM crinkle ribbon.  I grabbed the pink ribbon from the brand new Tie Dye 2 bundle to make mine special. Does special have to mean complicated or time consuming?  Absolutely not!  Though you can spend lots of...

Close to my Heart "Skylark" Mother's Day Card

Image
I wanted to make a special Mother's Day card for my mom and I wanted to use the Skylark product line from Close to my Heart.  I don't have a Close to My Heart mother's stamp, but I was still able to create a great card using the Artiste Cricut cartridge bundle as well as some other great products.  I think she will love it because it is really her style. Since the paper was double-sided, I didn't need to choose coordinating pattern papers.  I just pulled some Daisy White and Lagoon cardstock to pull it all together.  I even used the strip from the top of the page for some extra dimension.  Lagoon and Desert Sand Exclusive inks were the perfect colors to coordinate with the paper.  Not sure where to get started but want to start making cards?  The CTMH Originals Cardmaking Program book is a great place to start.  This card is actually from that book along with a slight modification.  It is so easy to use. The video walks you t...

No Means No

**Warning - This post contains a candid look into a very sensitive topic.  It may not be appropriate for young audiences due to it's sexual theme.  However, it is something that I feel should be discussed.** It's been quite a while since I wrote a reflections post, but feel prompted to do so today.  As many of you know, I am an Emergency Department nurse.  What you may not know is that I'm also a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner or SANE.  I am privileged to work on a talented team of nurse's trained to assist sexual assault and rape victims.  I also work with a multi-disciplinary team made of law enforcement agents, advocates, nurses, and prosecutors.  One of my team members recently received an award for her work in the field and as I was reflecting on the work she and the rest of the team does, I was prompted to write about this difficult and painful topic. A Little Background My start into SANE was quite unexpected and goes back to 2008 when I wa...

How about an altered art project?  I like learning new things and playing with new items, so I decided to grab some of those inexpensive frames you see at Michael's Crafts.  I picked up 2 of them and started playing.  You can find a complete description in the video below.  I will tell you that it took a bit of Gesso and paint smudged with a little ink to completely alter these little beauties.  They started out black and white.
